Multi-Family Tax Exemption (MFTE) program offers "affordable" housing in some market rate buildings.

City of Seattle Office of Housing provides a searchable map showing the location of apartment buildings in Seattle where building owners do not pay property tax on the all the residential portions of their buldings by setting aside 20% of the units at discount rents. The rent changed is less than market rate and requires that tenants be income qualified. The tax abatement is set for 12 years and can be extended.  The current MFTE program expires at the end of 2024 and the City Council will be enacting an ordinance that may change the program in the future. The Office of Housing is currently undertaking an evaluation of the program to determine if it is meeting the intended goals of providing affordable housing where and for whom it is most needed.
