Thank you for engaging with me and my office.  Although you have engaged on a range of issues, most everyone is aware of our neighbors facing homelessness and the way that has touched all the issues you have contacted me about.

Last year, then-Councilmember Kirsten Harris-Talley and I proposed generating the necessary resources for addressing this crisis by asking those businesses that had benefited the most from our economic boom to contribute a few cents an hour for each employee to pay for housing, shelter, and services for those left behind. With consultation from the Progressive Revenue Task Force, that proposal has evolved at Council.

You can see the proposed legislation by Councilmembers Mosqueda, González, Herbold, and myself here.

Although the revenue generated could potentially be a huge lift, many folks in the district have expressed concern over the tax structure, the impact on businesses, and our current spending. I invite you to learn more by coming to our North Seattle Town Hall on the Progressive Tax on Business to address housing and homelessness. There, you can hear more about this process and proposal and ask questions from the proposers and task force members themselves, including me.

See you there!
